CCMA – The Canadian Council of Montessori Administrators

The CCMA provides a strong, unified voice for Montessori schools across Canada. By becoming a member, you are gaining access to a network of knowledge and expertise on Montessori school administration - and affirming your commitment to the highest standards in Montessori education.

Who Can Join?
Schools that offer Montessori programs that meet the standards of the CCMA:
  • The school must be licensed, listed, or approved as required by its provincial legislation.
  • The school has in each class no less than one teacher with an AMI or MACTE recognized age-appropriate accreditation.
  • The school has in each class a full range of Montessori materials, as recommended by an AMI or MACTE recognized training institute.
  • The school has a policy of admitting children to the program at the age appropriate to the Montessori Method of education.
  • The school requires children to attend the program five days per week.
  • The school abides by the CCMA Code of Ethics.

The CCMA recognizes the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), and teacher training institutes that are accredited by the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE).

All members are accountable to The Canadian Council of Montessori Administrators for ensuring that their programs meet the standards and criteria established by the CCMA.

How to Apply
All applicants must provide:
  1. A completed Membership Application Form, and
  2. The supporting documents listed below:
    1. If the school is licensed by the Ministry of Community and Social Services or other Ministry, the school will be asked to include a copy of the current license. If the school is listed by the Ministry of Education as an Independent School, the listing will be verified by checking the Provincial listings.

    2. The administrator will be required to fill in a chart showing the number of classes at each age level and indicating the name, teaching credential held, training institute, and its AMI or MACTE affiliation, e.g., AMS, TMI. This will show that each class is under the direction of an AMI or MACTE accredited institute's age-appropriate trained teacher.

    3. The administrator will attest that a full range of Montessori materials, as recommended by an AMI or MACTE accredited training institute, is being supplied for each classroom.

    4. The school will be required to submit a copy of its brochure and/or enrollment policy to indicate its admittance policy.

    5. The school will be required to show that it informs prospective parents in writing of a five-day per week attendance policy.
