Position Summary:

As a growing High School, The Element is seeking an innovative and organized teacher with a passion for, and background in, French as a Second Language instruction who is available for the upcoming school year.  The ideal candidate will have experience teaching at the High School level and experience with the Montessori Method is an asset.  We are looking for a person who is dedicated, inspirational, able to effectively communicate with students and parents and who feels working with adolescents is their true calling. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a dedicated team of professionals.

The Element High School is a subsidiary of OMS Montessori, a CCMA-accredited Montessori school with 50+ years of educational excellence. The Element pedagogy is based on Montessori philosophy, whenever possible, while meeting or exceeding Ministry of Education standards. The Element is a not-for-profit private school offering an academically rigorous and engaging high school experience in Ottawa, Ontario. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lesson plan, teach, record keep and provide individual student support;
  • Facilitate hands-on exploration, student collaboration and problem-solving; integrate Montessori and innovative pedagogical practices into the curriculum;
  • Create meaningful partnerships with parents and families, including regular communications through e-mails, and phone calls;
  • Assess and provide regular feedback to students and communicate with parents on an as needed basis and during parent/teacher conferences and through report cards;
  • Integrate community resources into program planning;
  • Maintain and regularly update the curriculum documentation for courses;
  • Attend faculty meetings.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Uses student-centred teaching methodologies and other research-based practices;
  • Comfortable teaching multi-grade level classes concurrently
  • Is energetic, engaging, and creative with a clear love of students and the learning process;
  • Works well as part of a team;
  • Integrates educational technology to facilitate student-centred learning;
  • Is a lifelong learner who is committed to continuing professional development and maintains membership in professional organizations;
  • Has a passion for life and varied interests.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree and proficiency in French as a Second Language instruction required; Master’s degree preferred;
  • Ontario College of Teachers certified
  • Montessori Adolescent Certification is an asset but not required
  • Three to five years of teaching experience;
  • Proficiency in digital tools for collaborative, student-centred learning.
  • First Aid/CPR required (or willingness to obtain)
  • Successful applicants must have clear (or negative) TB test and pass criminal background check.

Junior High Teacher - Grades 7 and 8

Bishop Hamilton Montessori School is a CCMA accredited, not for profit independent school offering a Christian Montessori education to 200 students in the Ottawa area since 1983. 

Bishop Hamilton is seeking a teacher to join its Junior High team. Our program is in its 30th year and offers quality academics alongside community building, social development and an extensive outdoor and experiential education program.  The Montessori vision for adolescent studies guides our program as we meet the developmental needs of the adolescents we serve. 

The ideal candidate is a trained teacher who has experience with adolescents, is knowledgeable about Montessori, and is passionate about creating an environment which meets their developmental needs.  The candidate must be able to work well as part of a team delivering a quality program. 

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement lesson plans.
  • Plan and participate in overnight trips and field trips. 
  • Manage and guide individual student behaviour.
  • Communicate with parents and members of the educational team regarding student needs and progress as needed throughout the year.
  • Maintain accurate records, including long and short term lesson plans, observations and student individual progress.
  • Maintain open and regular communication with parents as required.
  • Prepare required written student progress reports.
  • Conduct formal parent interviews and other parent interviews at the request of the parents as required.
  • Participate in school wide events and activities, contributing to the School Community and spirit.
  • Attend department and staff meetings.
  • Provide a caring and nurturing atmosphere in the classroom and throughout the whole school. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education
  • Adolescent Montessori Trained is preferred or willingness to acquire training
  • FSL (French Second Language) Certification preferred

Experience: 

The successful candidate must meet one of the above qualifications and have some experience in Physical Education.
