Position:  Junior High Teacher Grades 7 and 8

Bishop Hamilton is seeking a teacher to join its Junior High team from January 2018 until June 2018 with the possibility of an extension.  Our program is in its 25th year and offers quality academics alongside community building, social development and an extensive outdoor and experiential education program.  The Montessori vision for adolescent studies guides our program as we meet the developmental needs of the adolescents we serve. 

The ideal candidate is a trained teacher who has experience with adolescents, is knowledgeable about Montessori, and is passionate about creating an environment which meets their developmental needs.  The candidate must be able to work well as part of a team delivering a quality program. 

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement lesson plans.
  • Plan and participate in overnight trips and field trips. 
  • Manage and guide individual student behaviour.
  • Communicate with parents and members of the educational team regarding student needs and progress as needed throughout the year.
  • Maintain accurate records, including long and short term lesson plans, observations and student’s individual progress.
  • Maintain open and regular communication with parents as required.
  • Prepare required written student progress reports.
  • Conduct formal parent interviews and other parent interviews at the request of the parents as required.
  • Participate in school wide events and activities, contributing to the School Community and spirit.
  • Attend department and staff meetings.
  • Provide a caring and nurturing atmosphere in the classroom and throughout the whole school. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education • Bachelor’s degree in English, History or Geography preferred.
  • Adolescent Montessori Trained is preferred

Experience: 

The successful candidate must meet one of the above qualifications and have some experience in Physical Education.

Salary:

Commensurate with experience

We are seeking a candidate for an Upper Elementary Assistant Teacher. This position is open for the current 2017/2018 School year. This teacher will work with a Lead teacher in a 9 to 12 years mixed age classroom (4th, 5th and 6th grade) with 23 to 27 students.

Qualifications and Experience

  • We are seeking individuals demonstrating a track record of strong collaboration, communication, compassion and competence in working with children within a child-centred philosophy.
  • Exemplary instincts with safety, supervision, time management and teaching responsibility is desirable.

REVEL ACADEMY is seeking its Lead Guide!

Revel Academy is seeking a Lead Guide who is ready to change education in Ottawa. This is an opportunity to be a founding force in an innovative program, as Revel will open its doors in September 2017. Revel is a private elementary school that blends state-of-the-art software, quest-like projects with real world applications, and Socratic discussions in a multi-age, student-led studio.

Position Description

The Lead Guide will oversee a class of up to 15 students aged 6 to 12. She or he will be responsible for facilitating Socratic group discussions, mentoring individual students, and facilitating hands-on quests. Though most of the curriculum will be set already, the Lead Guide will play a role in evaluating and refining the existing curriculum, as well as designing and experimenting with new projects, tools, and approaches.

This is a position for an independent learner who embraces collaboration, prototyping, and reflection. We need someone with a deep respect for children, who is willing to step back and allow them to choose their path. It is essential that this person can learn quickly, is willing to work hard, and is an active reader and writer.
