Job Posting:  Montessori Teacher Trained At 2.5 – 6 Level for Casa Class

Montessori School of Cambridge, a not-for-profit and registered charity, is celebrating 45 years of service to the children of Cambridge.  We are a CCMA Accredited School that is licensed under the Child Care and Early Years Act.  Midway between Toronto and London, Cambridge is a beautiful heritage river community which offers small town advantages while being part of Canada’s technology triangle.

We require for November 6, 2017 a Montessori teacher trained at the 2.5 – 6 level with MACTE, AMI or AMS certification to join our staff.  We offer the support of a Montessori-trained Principal.  Our school offers programs for toddler through age six for 85 students!  Our preschool program serving children from 2.5 to 6 years of age began in 1972.  Programs are: half-day mornings or half-day afternoons, “school day” from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for JK/SK age children and an integrated full day with maximum attendance from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for 2.5 to 6 year-olds.  Our school has 3 well-developed and completely equipped casa classrooms and a beautiful Toddler environment.  We are licensed under CCEY Act with the Ministry of Education and our teacher to pupil ratio is 1:8 for preschool and 1:5 for Toddler.  Our preschool classes are generally mixed-ages from 2.5 to 6; 22 -24 children with 2 trained teachers and an Aide.

The Montessori-trained teacher will be working with another Montessori teacher and be part of a cohesive team.  Hours of work are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with a one hour lunch break.  Paid hours are 37.5 hours per week.  Ideal candidates value and understand the preschool child; demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly with children, teaching partners and parents; are able to adapt and change to solve problems and to plan and work in a collaborative manner.  Contract period is 44 weeks (10 months), September to June.  Optional work for July may be available.  Individual salary is dependent upon education and experience.  One week before the start of classes and one week following the end of classes is under contract to be used for planning, preparation, cleaning, in-service, meeting with parents or children etc.  There are three weeks paid holidays- two weeks at Christmas plus one week at March Break.

The school offers a flexible benefits amount per full time employee.  This amount may be applied to the costs of extended health, drug and dental insurance.  Alternatively, the employee may choose to apply the amount to offset a child’ s tuition fees or request that the amount be deposited in a Group RRSP if she/he has a spousal benefits plan.  Mandatory Benefits Package includes: Life Insurance, Long term disability and A.D.D.  Flexible Benefits include:   Extended Health and Drug Plan, Dental Plan

A full-time employee is eligible for up to 10 paid days for absence because of sickness per school year.  We support professional development through tuition paid conferences and release time.  Annually two school-wide Professional Development Days are scheduled.  Also, two days are set aside twice per year, in December and in June, for Parent-Teacher Conferences.
