The Montessori Early Learning Centre (MELC) is a new Montessori community coming to Douglasdale SE, Calgary AB.  MELC will offer authentic Montessori programs, including preschool and before/after care, for children aged 3 to 6 years old.

Job Summary

The Montessori Assistant will be a critical team player, responsible for supporting the classroom Guide in delivering an authentic Montessori Casa program.

Personal qualities

  • Passionate about Montessori and working with children.  A keen observer of the needs and interests of children;
  • Strong team player who promotes and supports the overall goals, vision, and policies and procedures of the Centre;
  • Is flexible and dependable in regards to the needs of the children and requirements of the Centre;
  • Is a self-starter, organized, and conducts all responsibilities with dedication, trust and pride;
  • Communicates with gentleness and respect, at all times, to the children and in a professional, positive manner to parents and colleagues;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in the English language. French language an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with Montessori Guide, modeling appropriate and professional behavior at all times;
  • Maintain program quality, integrity and scope;
  • Maintain a beautifully prepared, organized, clean, safe and stimulating learning environment for the children;
  • Actively participate in on-going professional development to enhance Montessori knowledge and stay current on child development research;
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and Centre events, as required;
  • Any other related responsibilities not detailed here but that could be reasonably expected.

Qualifications & experience

  • Alberta Child Development Assistant certification;
  • Montessori Early Childhood Classroom Assistants’ Certificate preferred;
  • Minimum 1 years’ relevant experience. Preference will be given to applicants with Montessori Casa experience in a licensed early childhood centre;
  • Valid Standard Child Care First Aid and CPR, within past three months;
  • Current local police information check, including vulnerable sector search;
  • 3 references, including 2 professional and one personal.

The Montessori Guide will be a critical team member who is responsible for overall program quality and delivery as well as assisting with the day-to-day operations, when on duty.

  • Is flexible and dependable in regards to the needs of the children and requirements of the Centre;

  • Communicates with gentleness and respect, at all times, to the children and in a professional, positive manner to parents and colleagues;

  • Program delivery, quality, planning and continuous improvement whilst maintaining the program’s integrity and scope;
  • Work collaboratively with and guide classroom staff, modeling appropriate and professional behavior at all times;
  • Actively participates in on-going professional development to enhance Montessori knowledge and stay current on child development research;
  • Maintain and complete lesson plans, curriculum records and anecdotal records;
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and Centre events, as required;
  • Any other related responsibilities not detailed here but that could be reasonably expected.

Qualifications & experience

  • Montessori Early Childhood (3-6 year olds) Diploma (AMI or MACTE accredited);
  • Alberta Child Development Child Development Worker certification;
  • Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience. Preference will be given to applicants with Montessori Casa classroom in a licensed early childhood centre;
  • Bachelor of Education an asset but not mandatory;
  • Valid Standard Child Care First Aid and CPR, within past three months;
  • Current local police information check, including vulnerable sector search;
  • 3 references, including 2 professional and one personal.

POSITION:  Full time Casa Directress – Immediate Start

MMEC is CCMA accredited school offering programs for children from Toddler through to Erdkinder. We are proud of the integrity of our Montessori programming and our welcoming warm environment. Starting January 2017, we are opening a satellite location and require an experienced Casa Guide.

The successful/ideal applicant should possess the following:

- Montessori Diploma – MACTE or AMI

- current First Aid and CPR

- Valid Criminal Record Check

- enthusiasm and love for Montessori philosophy

-French as a second language is an asset

- well-rounded personality with a variety of passions

- ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with parents and children

- cooperative and flexible

- independent and motivated
