How To Become a CCMA Member School

Before You Apply Please familiarize yourself with the CCMA's:

  • Applicant and Accredited Membership Levels 

All members are accountable to The Canadian Council of Montessori Administrators for ensuring that their programmes meet the standards and criteria established by the CCMA.

An Applicant Member School shall meet the following criteria: 

  1. The school is actively engaged and making progress to meet the criteria for being Accredited. (e.g. 3 year family groupings/ mixed ages, five day per week programmes, etc.)

  2. The school has a policy of admitting students to programmes at an appropriate age level  consistent with Montessori principles (typically not after the year in which the child turns 4  years of age).

  3. Each classroom has at least one teacher with a recognized age-appropriate Montessori  Teaching Certificate issued by a MACTE accredited or AMI teacher-training programme, or any other teacher-training programme that may be recognized by the CCMA.

  4. Each classroom has a “Basic to Full Range” of Montessori materials.

  5. The school meets the relevant requirements for local Building, Health & Safety, and Fire  codes.

  6. The school carries liability insurance.

  7. The school is guided by the educational philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori.

  8. The school agrees to abide by the CCMA Code of Ethics.

An Accredited Member School shall meet the following criteria:

  1. Each classroom has at least one teacher with a recognized age-appropriate 
    Montessori Teaching Certificate issued by a MACTE accredited or AMI
    teacher-training programme, or any other teacher training programme
    that may be recognized by the CCMA.

  2. Each classroom has a “Full Range” of Montessori materials.

  3. Each classroom has 3-year multi-age groupings (as a minimum) i.e. 3-6, 6-9, 9-12.

  4. Programmes for children 3-6 years of age require attendance five days per week.

  5. The school has a policy of admitting students to programmes at an appropriate age
    level consistent with Montessori principles (typically not after the year in which the
    child turns 4 years of age).

  6. The school meets the relevant requirements for local Building, Health & Safety, and
    Fire codes.

  7. The school carries liability insurance.

  8. The school is guided by the educational philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori.

  9. The school agrees to abide by the CCMA Code of Ethics.

  10. The school has successfully completed the Accreditation process, including a
    comprehensive review of the policies, standards and practices of the school,
    by a CCMA Accreditation Review team.

How to Apply as a School Working towards Accreditation  

All applicants must provide:

A completed Membership Application Form, copies of teacher credential diplomas and an indication that criteria for an Accredited school are in place.
