Elementary Learning Strategist and Resource Specialist – New Position 2022-2023
Aurora Montessori School is a co-educational Montessori private school located in the heart of Aurora, Ontario on 14 acres of natural conservation land. AMS delivers high-quality Montessori programming to students aged Toddler to Grade 8 in a 36,000 sq. ft facility with multiple state-of-the-art playground areas, an outdoor amphitheatre and outdoor classroom, a gymnasium with a performance stage, and so much more.

The Learning Strategist and Resource Specialist will work closely with faculty in meeting the needs of all learners, as well as supporting students who have specific learning differences. The overall objective of this exciting new role in our Elementary division is to optimize our student’s learning experience and overall well-being. The Learning Strategist and Resource Specialist works closely with the Vice Principal of Academics and Curriculum and the Vice Principal of Formative Education and Advocacy and works collaboratively with teachers, administration team members and parents to support all students.
The Learning Strategist and Resource Specialist is a full-time employee of the school, working an average of 35 hours a week during regular school hours, evenings, and some weekends, throughout the school year. o Ontario Teacher’s Certificate or equivalent, Montessori experience/ knowledge is considered an asset
o Additional qualifications or degree/diploma in Special Education
o Experience working with students of diverse learning needs, one‐on‐one, in small groups and in whole class situations o Fluency with universal design for learning, learning strategies, numeracy, and literacy skills for students in Grades K-8

o Possesses strong and compelling written and verbal communication skills
o Maintains high standards of excellence in all work and takes responsibility for outcomes
o Ability to interact with students, parents, and teachers cheerfully, enthusiastically, courteously, and patiently
o Possesses strong administrative and organizational skills and demonstrates a facility with managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
o Proficiency with Office 365 applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.)
o Ability to exercise good judgment and use discretion with confidential information
o Support teachers in differentiating instructional and assessment practices in the classroom
o Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with the administrative team, teachers, and parents of students receiving or referred for learning strategies and resource support
o Participate in classroom observations of individuals or groups of students
o Review all psychoeducational assessments and other relevant documentation to create and maintain Student Learning and Growth Plans (SLG Plans) in collaboration with parents and other professionals as required
o Update SLG Plans on an annual basis (at minimum) or as required over the course of the academic year
o Share information about individual student learning needs with applicable teachers and ensure that teachers are following the SLG Plans o Provide academic resource support to students with identified learning exceptionalities as well as non-identified students presenting with academic challenges
o Provide general learning strategies instruction to both individual students and whole classrooms (e.g., time management, study skills, effective note-taking, etc.)
o In collaboration with the Director of Technology, provide assistive technology training to identified students and their teachers
o Communicate with outside agencies to arrange additional services for students as required
o Collaborate with the Admissions team to review applications of students with identified learning exceptionalities o Perform supervision duties as assigned, for example study hall supervision, field trips, supply coverage, etc.
o Participate fully in the life of the school, including Open Houses, school events, etc.
