 THE SCHOOL

Established in 1998 Yukon Montessori School operates as a non-profit establishment under the umbrella of Whitehorse Montessori Society and Yukon Parents for Montessori Society offering authentic AMI Montessori education.The Elementary students enjoy a fully equipped Montessori classroom and experience a well-balanced curriculum. The elementary school receives graduates from two strong and well established casa classrooms. Our vision is to inspire children to discover their full potential through engaging with the world as confident, independent, creative, compassionate, and resourceful learners.  THE POSITION

Yukon Montessori School is seeking a well organized, experienced and dynamic Montessori Educator to lead our Lower and Upper Elementary classroom (Grades 1 – 7) for the 2022-2023 school year (one year contract to replace a teacher on a one year sabbatical). The ideal candidate must be willing to relocate to Whitehorse and ready to embrace the northern lifestyle. The candidate must be passionate about working with children in an authentic and quality Montessori environment and helping children reach their full potential. The elementary teacher will work closely with a full-time teaching assistant to facilitate the learning of 24 students. Fluency in English is essential and knowledge of French is desirable.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 Accredited AMI or MACTE Montessori training (Upper and Lower Elementary)

  • Bachelor of Education is a strong asset
  • Valid First Aid /CPR level C is preferred
  • Additional courses or training in education would be advantageous

To be successful in this role the applicant must: 

  • Guide and assist children in the elementary Montessori classroom (ages 6-12)
  • Establish appropriate guidelines for behaviour
  • Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, safety and well-being of children
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers, families and board of Directors
  • Possess strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Implement effective classroom management skills, show a positive attitude and be a team player
  • Demonstrate well-developed interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication

 YOUR ROLE

  • Observing, guiding, supervising, and assessing children while they learn in the classroom environment
  • Developing lesson plans, independent learning exercises, curricula, and methods that cater to the needs of the individual child
  • Creating and maintaining a safe, clean, stimulating classroom where all children feel safe and valued
  • Establishing rapport and building relationships with students based on trust
  • Setting an excellent example for students and instilling good values in them like honesty, accountability, understanding, tolerance, respect, love, and kindness
  • Monitoring and assessing student progress and writing up reports
  • Ensuring classroom supplies and equipment are available and in working condition
  • Updating records of assessment
  • Participating in school activities and accompanying students on field trips
  • Supervising lunch and lunchtime play

Salary: $70,000-$85,000 per year depending on experience and qualifications
