Toddler Accredited Montessori Teacher Guide

We are seeking a nurturing, committed, and professionally trained Montessori Toddler Guide to join our team of early years educators. The ideal candidate will hold Montessori accreditation (AMI or MACTE) and be preferably registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators (RECE) in Ontario (or equivalent provincial body). However, holding the RECE requirement is an asset and not mandatory. This role is central to cultivating a rich, responsive, and developmentally appropriate environment for toddlers aged 18 months to 2.5 years, in accordance with the Montessori method and current Canadian early years standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Classroom Leadership & Prepared Environment
- Maintain and enhance a prepared Montessori toddler environment that promotes independence, order, and freedom within limits.
- Foster a calm, respectful, and engaging atmosphere that supports the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of toddlers.
- Observe each child closely to guide individualized learning paths and developmental progress.
- Ensure all Montessori materials are maintained in excellent condition and presented appropriately.
Compliance & Best Practices
- Ensure all practices comply with the Canadian licensing regulations, CECE Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, and the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA).
- Align daily activities with the How Does Learning Happen? framework and Montessori philosophy to support authentic and holistic learning experiences.
Documentation & Communication
- Keep accurate and current observations, progress reports, and developmental records for each child.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with parents, maintaining open lines of collaboration and trust.
- Participate in regular team meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and school-wide events as needed.
Collaboration & Teamwork
- Work collaboratively with classroom assistants and other educators to support each child’s development and the functioning of the classroom.
- Serve as a role model for best practices in Montessori education and early learning.
- Mentor and support assistant teachers, sharing Montessori knowledge and classroom techniques as needed.
Health, Safety & Wellbeing
- Supervise and ensure the health, safety, and overall well-being of children in the classroom always.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment in line with school and regulatory standards.
- Follow all school policies, emergency procedures, and hygiene protocols.
Qualifications:
- Montessori Infant/Toddler Diploma from an accredited AMI (Association Montessori Internationale) or MACTE (Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education) training centre is required.
- Current candidates in the MTC program or otherwise are invited to apply and note your course completion date in the application process/body of your email/cover letter.
- RECE designation in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE) is mandatory if you hold the RECE designation also.
- Minimum 1–3 years of experience working with toddlers in a Montessori setting is preferred but will accept the practical experience provided through the accredited college as valid experience. We will train on site.
- Strong understanding of child development principles and early learning frameworks used in Canada.
- Excellent communication, observation, and organizational skills.
- Current Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification.
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
Assets:
- Bilingualism (English/French or English/Mandarin) is an asset.
- Experience in a start-up or growing school environment.
- Familiarity with digital tools for documentation and communication.
- Holding both RECE and Montessori Accreditation at the toddler level.
